Too old to Rock & Roll but too young to die. Do the world a favour...and downsize!
If you recognise this song by the infamous 70’s band Jethro Tull you will likely be of a certain age and this article is aimed at you.
I don’t mean this minute but you should be planning for the best form of property for your retirement and into old age.
Perhaps you have already. However, many don’t and end up in a house which is far larger than they need.
If this could be you - do the world a favour - and downsize.
Too many of us hold on to family homes for the (odd) occasion when children and grandchildren visit, and there is validity in this.
However, there comes a point when you have to ask if the house you are in could be better used by a younger family who will fill the place all the time.
Downsizing, means you can release cash or pay off your mortgage - if you still have one. It also allows you to choose a really practical flat or small house which you can be comfortable in as you transition into old age.
Far better to move whilst you can do so with ease. Those who stay in their oversized properties often end up being forced out earlier than they would like and ending up in nursing homes. Nobody wants that.
One last thing. Try to buy a place with a second bedroom so family or carers can live in. This will allow you to stay in your home for the longest possible.
