Communism and the Civil Service
Monday 22nd July 2024
In recent years, the Civil Service has become really quite left-leaning.
If there are any Civil Servants inclined to the right, they dare not open their mouths in Whitehall these days.
It is just as well right-leaners prefer to work in the real world of business.
Lefty university graduates go into charity work, the arts, quangos and the Civil Service where money is less of a motive and organising people’s lives feels - to them - like they are doing good in the world.
Almost all, are therefore delighted to see Labour voted into power.
There is good news in this for housing and the property world.
The new Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government ‘Ungela’ Raynor, a Corbynista if not a Communist, intends to push planning boundaries and build lots of houses and even New Towns.
HM Treasury approval is imperative when trying to make any changes in the UK and critically, ‘Ungela’ has Rachel Reeves’ and the Treasury Civil Servants’ backing. In reality, it is not ‘Ungela’ who is behind these ideas at all but the Treasury.
Regardless, I too am delighted. I am all for building on the Grey Belt – love that term, wish I had invented it. And New Towns are one of my favourite topics!
The problem is that to get these new projects through planning and underway we either need to see the Civil Service taking a leaf out of the French Republic, railroading all before it, or act like a Communist state.
Fortunately, the latter comes naturally to them!
So, they may succeed.
Until next time……
